Fr. Chris - Pastor

Fr. Chris was born in South Chicago (Go White Sox!), but was raised in Hammond. He is the fifth of nine children. As his family continued to grow they moved to Portage where his parents and younger siblings still reside.

Fr. Chris graduated from Andrean High School and started studying Math Education at Franciscan University of Steubenville in Steubenville, Ohio. After a year, he transferred to Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary at St. Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota. He spent three years there studying Philosophy and Spanish. After graduation, Bishop Melczek sent him to Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, Michigan. He spent four years there studying Theology. By the time he finished, he completed three different Master’s Degrees, one of which has a concentration in spirituality.

When he finished all of his studies, he came back to the Diocese of Gary and was ordained a priest on June 7, 2014. For his first two years of priesthood he was assigned to Queen of All Saints Parish in Michigan City. He taught two classes while he was there – one on Scripture and one on Prayer. He was named the temporary administrator there while the pastor took a three month research sabbatical

As for some of his hobbies, he loves to be outdoors. He likes to cycle, run, swim, kayak, etc… He used to be really big into racquetball when He was in the seminary. He is an avid reader, coffee drinker, and health food fanatic… He works hard, he prays hard, and he loves every minute of it.

Adam - Director of Collegiate Outreach

My name is Adam Antone and starting July 1st I began working at St. Teresa of Avila as the Director of Collegiate Outreach. It is an honor to be a part of this community and to work in building up the Kingdom of God here at St. Teresa and the campus of Valparaiso University.

A little background about me; I am a native of Northwest Indiana having grown up in neighboring Chesterton. I attended St. Patrick Catholic School beginning in pre-school and remaining through eighth grade, followed by four years at Chesterton High School. After graduating from high school, I attended Marian University in Indianapolis where I majored in Philosophy and minored in Psychology. Throughout my college years, while taking my classes and receiving my bachelors from Marian, I lived and received formation at Bishop Simon Brute College Seminary, where I discerned a possible call to the Catholic priesthood. After four years of thorough prayer and vocational discernment, I experienced the Lord inviting me to explore other options for my life.

Last year I had the opportunity to teach freshman and junior theology at Andrean Catholic High School in Merrillville, Indiana. The classes I taught included Scripture, Person of Christ, and Sacraments.

I am very much looking forward to working with the peer ministers and FOCUS missionaries that we will have here with us at St. Teresa, supporting their efforts to evangelize and become the face of Christ to the students at Valparaiso University. As I begin this new ministry I ask your prayers and please be assured of mine!
